Englewood police assisted in nabbing Harrideo Persaud, a 59-year-old truck driver from South Richmond Hill, Queens, following Sunday afternoon’s attack, Capt. Matthew Hintze said Wednesday.

The woman told police that Persaud “contacted her to assist him with picking up a vehicle in New Jersey,” Hintze said.

On their way there, he said, Persaud “held the victim against her will and sexually assaulted her.

“When she resisted, Persaud struck her in the face and again attempted to sexually assault her,” the captain said.

The woman escaped by grabbing the steering wheel and forcing her attacker to stop the vehicle, he said.

Persaud “grabbed her hair and shoulders,” but she managed to break free and run to a westbound Route 4 Exxon station, Hintze said.

Police responding to the call found her with “noticeable injuries” for which she was hospitalized, the captain said.

Fort Lee and Englewood police teamed up to stop and seize Persaud a few miles away, he said.

He remained held Wednesday in the Bergen County Jail, charged with kidnapping, aggravated criminal sexual contact and aggravated assault.
